Teaching Methods

Before class began, my coordinator teacher initiated a prayer. He first instructed the students to remove their jackets and change into physical education uniforms. Following this, Sir Marlon appointed a student to lead the prayer. Once the prayer concluded, Sir Marlon directed the students downstairs to the court, where the lesson would begin. Before class started, the students performed a warm-up exercise, such as a dance, in their respective groups. As I taught, I implemented some of Sir Marlon's interactive methods since physical education typically involves students simply following demonstrations. We needed to ensure the students truly comprehended the material we presented.

Learning Materials and Innovation

I utilized PowerPoint as my primary teaching resource since most students' teachers and my coordinator teacher recommended it. Additionally, I incorporated a speaker system to motivate students with a warm-up dance at the start of each lesson. I instructed classes for ninth and tenth grades, with each grade covering a distinct topic - basketball sports officiating for grade nine and yoga for grade ten. Preparing the basketball court for grade nine was necessary, while for grade ten, I brought mats from Sir Marlon's office to the court, which was the designated teaching space.

Source of Learning and Technology used by the Teachers

The SLU High School laboratory boasts a library, science lab, computer facilities, projectors with TVs in each classroom, and various sports materials that aid in teaching effectiveness. As a result, teachers have greater ease of access and can use a whiteboard and projector during classes. In addition, a speaker is available for physical education classes.

Authentic Assessment used by the Teachers

During my observation and teaching periods, Sir Marlon gave a different assessment for each grade to the students. However, there was the same review for every class we taught; we were provided an evaluation for the dance warm-up. During the 9th-grade course, Sir Marlon gave them an assignment to memorize the hand signal, and for the next week, we were to provide the assessment. Still, for 10 grade, which is yoga, there was a performance test, and we were provided an evaluation of their performance. Afterward, there was a question to complete their assessment. The question was, "in what way yoga help you if you pray," and Sir Marlon provided an evaluation of those answers.
